About the author:

Shawn Evans – College (Journalism) student and die-hard fighting game enthusiast.

I grew up playing video games of all sorts, but always had a fascination for competitive ones. I played fighting games a lot when I was younger, but I was obviously too young to fully understand their complexity or how the competition really worked, so I sat around various training modes performing rudimentary combos that I thought looked cool at the time.

Around 2006 I (finally) got a hold of a Dreamcast and a copy of Marvel vs Capcom 2. The game had always seemed interesting to me, but I never really got the chance to play it until then. When I first started college, I began playing with a few of my buddies there.

Shortly thereafter, I got a job at one of the local arcades, which happened to have an MvC2 cabinet. That’s really where it took off. I got into the competition and became a part of the scene. I got to meet and learn from a lot of fellow fighting game enthusiasts, formed friendships, formed rivalries. Pretty exciting stuff.

With the help of a few of the people I’ve met, we took the growing fighting game scene of Savannah and nurtured it. Started having meets, matches, parties, tournaments, etc. Through all of our work, we’ve really put something together. This blog is a product of that ‘something,’  a hub for our scene to keep up to date on the meets and strategies of the Savannah players. It’s just another step towards putting us on the map — something that I want to be a part of every step of the way.
